Our leaders

Chief Executive Officer of Triple-S since February 2024 and President of the healthcare line of business since April 2023. Before joining Triple-S, he served as Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, and GuideWell Venture Group. In 2019, Thurman was Chief Financial Officer of Beacon Health Options. Additionally, he held positions as Chief Financial Officer of Senior Whole Health, Vice President of Operations at Travelers Insurance Company, and Controller and Finance Officer for Cigna Corporation. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Central Connecticut State University and is a certified public accountant.

Chief Financial Officer since October 2023 with more than 25 years of experience in the health care industry and in the Blue system. Most recently he was Senior Vice President and CFO at Highmark Health Plan. Additionally, he held senior leadership positions at Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC) and Florida Blue. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and computer science from Northern Kentucky University and has completed executive education programs at Wharton and Harvard.

Dr. José E. Novoa has been the Chief Medical Officer since July 2015. Before joining the company, he served as Medical Director and head of Cardiology of the Cardiovascular Center of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. He is certified by the Board of Cardiovascular Disease and the American Board of Internal Medicine. He completed his medical studies at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine and his training in echocardiography at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Chief Growth and Customer Experience Officer since September 2021, specialized in market and segment strategies. Previously she was Chief Marketing Officer since June 2018. Before joining Triple-S, she served as the Chief Administrative Officer of Medicare much more and Senior Vice President of Human Resources at Banco Popular. She has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Puerto Rico, a master’s degree in labor and human resources management from Ohio State University and an MBA from Indiana University.

Chief Operating Officer of our Health line of business since June 2023. Before joining our team, he served as Chief Executive Officer at the MindBeacon company. He has also led, as chief executive, commercial activities of national companies, including Optum and Humana. Dan holds a master’s degree in counseling and psychology from Dallas Baptist University, a Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in premedical and psychology from Baylor University, a product development and management certification from the University of California HAAS School of Business, and a Health Care Management Leadership certification from Harvard Business School.

Chief Information Officer since January 2024. Bob has held various executive roles, most recently serving as Senior Vice President & Chief Information and Security Officer at Consortium Health Plan. Prior to that, he held a leadership role at Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of WNY in Buffalo, New York. He holds an MBA in strategic management from Niagara University; a master’s in science on information management from Stevens Institute of Technology; and a BS in computer science from William Paterson University.

Chief Legal and Compliance Officer since 2021. Since joining the company in 2013 he held various leadership positions including Chief Legal Counsel and Corporate Secretary, Associate General Counsel, Acting General Counsel, and Assistant Secretary. He also served as Adjunct Professor at the University of Puerto Rico School of Law and Deputy Chief of Staff for the Governor of Puerto Rico. He has a master's degree in international relations from Johns Hopkins University, a juris doctor from the University of Puerto Rico School of Law, and an LL.M. from Columbia University Law School.

Chief Talent & Administrative Officer since September 2021. Ilia joined Triple-S in 2018 to lead human resources. She has extensive experience in organizational design, culture change, and talent development in several companies including Doral Financial, Banco Popular, Merck, and Ferring Pharmaceuticals. She has a bachelor’s degree in social sciences from the University of Puerto Rico and a doctorate in industrial-organizational psychology from Carlos Albizu University.

President of Triple-S Vida since 1998. He served as a VP of Finance at GA Life since 1987. Previously, he worked at KPMG LLP from 1978 to 1987. He is a Certified Public Accountant with a BBA in Accounting from the University of Puerto Rico.

President of Triple-S Propiedad since March 2017. He has held positions of increasing responsibility since joining the company in 1998, including Surety Manager, Manager, VP and Senior VP of Underwriting, and, most recently, Senior VP of Underwriting and Claims. Previously, he worked at Universal Insurance Company. He is a certified public accountant with a BBA in Accounting from the University of Puerto Rico.
