We were born to care for your health

Our story began in 1959, when we were founded to promote access to healthcare, always with you at the center of our services. We were the first health plan on the island to cover visits to a doctor's office.

Our transformation

We are the only health plan in Puerto Rico that offers products for individuals, families, private and public employers—including federal and Puerto Rican government employees—as well as Medicaid and Medicare Advantage. Over the years, we’ve expanded our offerings to include not only health insurance but also life, property, and casualty insurance. Through Salus, our network of medical clinics, we provide outpatient and dental care. Salus offers primary medical care, preventive care, telemedicine, and access to more than 25 specialties with a broad and well-recognized medical faculty.

We understand that our people’s needs are constantly evolving, which is why we’ve grown alongside Puerto Rico. We adapt to changes, to new technologies, and continue to evolve to offer you services that meet the ever-changing expectations of today’s consumers.

We respond to you and the times

At Triple-S, evolution is constant. Throughout our history, we’ve adapted our services to meet Puerto Rico’s changing needs. From introducing TeleConsulta in 1998—the first nurse-operated health guidance service—to the 2013 launch of the Mi Triple-S app to facilitate access to health plan services.

Puerto Rico’s changing landscape led to the development of additional services in line with member needs and technological advancements. Highlights include the innovative TeleConsulta MD app for virtual appointments with primary doctors, specialists, and psychologists; Triple-S en casa for home delivery of medications, which helped respond to the needs of the pandemic; Mi Triple-S, which provides fast and secure access to information and services for members; and the Triple-S Propiedad app, which allows users to make payments, submit claims, and access important documents directly from their phones 24/7.

For us, innovation is part of our DNA. We evolve to grow with you, providing excellent service that adapts to your lifestyle.

We returned to our origins

In February 2022, after more than a decade as a public company and in response to new challenges in the health sector and their impact on Puerto Rico’s population, we joined GuideWell. This mutual health insurance and services company serves over 38 million people in the United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. With this action, we took a firm step and returned to our roots, guided by our mission to enable healthy lives. We reaffirmed our commitment to serve Puerto Rico with the same passion and dedication that has defined us for more than 65 years.

We empower you

Through our education programs, we offer preventive care tools to support your health and well-being. Our prevention-focused resources, blog, and community outreach efforts are part of our commitment to strengthening our people’s health.

We design programs to support behavior change for chronic conditions like diabetes and obesity, prenatal care and high-risk pregnancies, mental health, and end-stage cancer, among others. For the growing number of caregivers in our communities, we also created Contigo Cuidador, a program that provides resources for this important role.

We address national issues

We don’t just care about your individual health—we also address issues that impact your overall well-being. Throughout our history, we’ve taken steps to raise public awareness and advance solutions for a range of topics. These include the environment, with the memorable campaign Una isla limpia es una isla saludable;

Others addressing harmful habits like No fumes, date la gran vida; and campaigns highlighting Puerto Rican values, such as Gente buena, Buena gente. More recently, during the pandemic, we launched Puerto Rico es único, to educate and raise awareness about the importance of taking care of ourselves.

We live in community

As part of a community—and especially during emergencies on our island—we step up, mobilizing resources where they are needed most. That’s why we work together with community organizations like Dementia Friends, March of Dimes, Albizu University, Fundación Filantropía, and Aliados para Cuidar to support caregivers and many others.

We also promote employee volunteerism. Our staff contributes their time and talents to community organizations across the island, helping build a better future for everyone.

We expand support with Fundación Triple-S

In 2017, during a time of great need on the island, we established the Fundación Triple-S to expand our community commitment and social impact. Given the challenges our country faces, we focus our efforts on three key areas: disaster response, social determinants of health, and scholarships to support training for health professionals in critical specialties and areas of need.

We lead efforts to address food insecurity as a health and emotional well-being issue. More recently, our initiative to tackle social isolation and loneliness has supported community projects, guided research, and educated doctors and communities on the topic.

We lead health initiatives

In 2024, in response to a shortage of health professionals, Triple-S led the creation of the Fundación para el Futuro de la Salud, an independent organization focused on finding solutions to lack of access to health services. Triple-S contributed an initial $5 million investment.

We also continue to collaborate with the government and other health leaders to achieve equity in Medicaid and Medicare Advantage programs, which serve most of the island’s elderly population.
